maychorian: (when did my writing style contract the d)
boring life stuff )

Oh and also, I haven't been reading as much lately as I would like to. My flist has been posting all kinds of goodies that I really, really want to read, and I will get to them, I will, I really want to. But in the meantime, there is one WIP that I am following with great eagerness, always delighted at every. single. update. I know I've gotten kind of a reputation in the SPN fandom for being a purveyor of all things cute and fluffy (which I don't mind, really, even though I tend to write all kinds of darkfic in my head), but srsly, you guys, this is better.

It's The Wellspring by [livejournal.com profile] scourgeofeurope, a Dark Angel/Supernatural crossover in which Dean and Sam come across a tiny smartass in a barn and...well...family happens, is the best explanation. I adore this fic with every bone in my body, including the tiny ones in my ears that have nothing to do with reading fanfiction.

So yeah, if you get sick of waiting for an update on Mouths? Go read that. It's worth it. And the fact of its WIPness is actually sort of a delight, because you know you have something awesome to look forward to, and she also updates pretty regularly, so you know, that's good.
maychorian: (stories with SamnDean)
As a newbie to the SPN fandom, I’ve been reading an awful lot. The fact is, the fanfiction in this fandom is sometimes/often better than the show itself. Show is cool, yes, but flawed and error-full and screaming for fanfic fixes. So people do. Really well.

As you do, I’ve found a few writers who are consistently excellent and appear to mostly see the characters the way I do, and write a variety of genres really well, though my preference is still heavy on the h/c and angst side, with also love for some humor and well-written action. These people might be BNFs or whatever, because they do seem to have an awful lot of friends/reviews. Do not care either way. Fact is, these people write really, really good stuff.

So yeah, here’s my list of good SPN writers. There is a high likelihood that it is very similar to a lot of other people’s lists, but that’s okay. If I can introduce you to even one good writer who you didn’t know existed before reading this, then my work is done. I may update this list occasionally. I have read a significant number of these people’s fics, enough to recommend not only a story here or there, but their entire milieu. I’ve read lots of other awesome single stories, but not enough of that particular writer to know their work as a whole.

These people are awesome )
maychorian: (GUH DEAN IS SO PRETTY AGH)
I watched the whole first season of Dark Angel just to get to season 2, which has Jensen Ackles. I didn't particularly care for season one, mind you--I found it sort of dull and melodramatic and not-as-original-as-people-say-it-is, and way too much with the ridiculous UST pulled out just for ratings. (Realistic UST is okay. This is not. Real people don't act like that.) But anyway.

JENSEN IS SO PRETTY OMG. MY TV WILL EXPLODE--IT WAS NOT MADE TO HOLD SO MUCH PRETTY. AND YES. I HAVE WATCHED ALL THREE STAR WARS PREQUELS ON THAT TV, SKIPPING EVERYTHING ELSE TO JUST WATCH THE OBI-WAN PARTS, AND THE TV BARELY SURVIVED. THIS IS GOING TO BE THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE TV'S BACK. POOR TV. IT'S A WORTHY CAUSE TO DIE FOR THOUGH. STOP.

Also I have only seen twenty minutes of season two, and I find it vastly better and more entertaining and interesting. And that was even before Jensen graced the scene. So gudanya, Dark Angel peoples! You win the Most Improved Award! I promise, it's not just a cop-out to make sure that even the slow kids get some sort of award. It's really true. You did it. You stepped it up and made me like the show a LOT more.

I "watched" a lot of season one while doing other things, like playing with my mice and rats, filling out online surveys, and refreshing my email inbox spastically if I had happened to recently post something. But now I finally feel interested enough to tuck my laptop away and actually pay attention to the show.

Right after I hit the post button.

ETA:

I SPOKE TOO SOON. THEY MADE AN EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS WAY TO DRAG OUT THE UST. OH SIGH. YOU WERE DOING SO WELL, SHOW. STOP.
