maychorian: (stories with SamnDean)
As a newbie to the SPN fandom, I’ve been reading an awful lot. The fact is, the fanfiction in this fandom is sometimes/often better than the show itself. Show is cool, yes, but flawed and error-full and screaming for fanfic fixes. So people do. Really well.

As you do, I’ve found a few writers who are consistently excellent and appear to mostly see the characters the way I do, and write a variety of genres really well, though my preference is still heavy on the h/c and angst side, with also love for some humor and well-written action. These people might be BNFs or whatever, because they do seem to have an awful lot of friends/reviews. Do not care either way. Fact is, these people write really, really good stuff.

So yeah, here’s my list of good SPN writers. There is a high likelihood that it is very similar to a lot of other people’s lists, but that’s okay. If I can introduce you to even one good writer who you didn’t know existed before reading this, then my work is done. I may update this list occasionally. I have read a significant number of these people’s fics, enough to recommend not only a story here or there, but their entire milieu. I’ve read lots of other awesome single stories, but not enough of that particular writer to know their work as a whole.

These people are awesome )

So lately I've been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A lot of it. I got the complete collector's set and all--seven seasons, forty discs, hundreds of vampire slayings and billions of soap opera moments.

I really like it!

Yes, yes, I have heard that it was great up to season five or so and then suddenly started sucking. But I'm just at the start of season three, so it's still good. Very good. Amazingly good.

I continue to be very impressed with Joss Whedon's skills as a writer. Dang, I want to be able to do that. The dialogue is great, the characters are wonderful. The premise is dizzyingly fun and goofy and full of possibility. The plots--meh. Some are better than others. But I don't usually love shows for plot, anyway. I love character, milieu, interaction, development. And these are all pretty spiffy.

So yeah, we'll see when I think it starts sucking. And why. I'll let you know.

I really, really want to read some SG-1/BtVS crossovers now, because Giles and Daniel would so totally be bffs immediately. But all the ones I've found that look interesting (at least so far) are set in Buffy seasons I haven't seen yet. And I'm really enjoying watching the show with practically no prior information, so I don't want to spoil myself. (The only things I really knew going in was the basic premise, the identities of some of the characters, and the fact that it was good.)

SO MUCH FUN.
