maychorian: (i will consider)

I really like analyzing myself and my own writing, and I probably do it too much, but whatever. So when I see people on my flist doing it, that JUST ENCOURAGES me. So yeah.

This year…I discovered Supernatural. And I fell so freaking hard, it’s really kind of ridiculous. The vast majority of what I wrote this year has been written since the middle of August, when I first started writing SPN fic. So yes, four and a half months. Before that, maybe ten or fifteen thousand words in total, including original stuff.

Total now? 123,968 words (not counting incidental stuff for the Wrath & Gunfire D&D setting).

O.O

So thank you, SPN, for kicking my muse in the pants.

Oh, there were others, so nine “fandoms” in total, counting Wrath & Gunfire.

Star Wars/Jedi Apprentice: 1 short story, 2 commentfics, 2 commentfic crossovers (about 7000 words)
Chronicles of Narnia: 2 crossover short stories, connected (about 6000 words)
Numb3rs: 1 commentfic, 1 crossover short story (about 1000 words)
Dexter: 1 commentfic crossover (about 400 words)
Doctor Who: 1 commentfic crossover (about 600 words)
Stargate SG-1: 1 short story, 1 drabble, 1 commentfic, 4 crossover commentfics, the JacknDean ‘verse (about 34,000 words)
MouseHunt: 1 short story (about 800 words)
Wrath & Gunfire: 2 short stories (about 4000 words)
Supernatural: EVERYTHING ELSE, and overlapping most of those crossovers

My favorite story this year (of my own):
Oooh, hard. Probably The Tale of Teenie Weenie Deanie (And His Brother, the Meanie). My first crackfic! And I got to combine three of my favoritest things in the world: SamnDean, mice, and D&D. Certain moments in that story still crack me up. ::is lame::

My best story this year:
Think I gotta go with Entertaining Angels, here. It had so much PLOT. And it went unexpectedly epic. And I felt like I wrote everyone really well, despite never having written most of them before. Plus, I mean, ghost lions. GHOST LIONS WIN THE WORLD.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Ad Aeterno. Not a surprise at all, since this was my very first story in a brand-new fandom, and it was a boring ol’ character study, and I had no idea what I was doing and my concept of the characters was still shifting almost daily. But looking back at it now, it was a genuinely interesting and fresh look at the SPN universe. And I enjoyed digging out my old Latin books from high school. Feels weird, though, now, seeing that it has a grand total of three comments on LJ.

Most fun story:
Well, The Tale of Teenie Weenie Deanie, obviously. But also Black and White and Purple and Orange. It was so fun to play with the characters like that. My first SPN AU! ::snuggles it:: And I still think Ted is really cute.

Most sexy story:
Hee, all gen girl, me, so I’ll take a page from Refur’s book and go with angsty instead. That would definitely be No Words for This. 4.10 coda FTW! Though Painted Dreams of Red and Yellow is pretty bad, too, without much hope in it.

Story with single sexiest angstiest moment:
Mmm, gotta say Dust on the Edges, with Sam so utterly unable to figure out what to do. Which is why I had to re-do the whole story, then, to give myself some closure. ::is lame some more::

Story with single sweetest moment:
Entertaining Angels again. I mean…mini!Cas trying to comfort post-nightmare!Dean. There’s…not much you can do to get more toothachey sweet than that.

Most unintentionally *telling* story:
Um, probably Clarity. So self-indulgent. Just me stroking my own h/c buttons, really.

"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story:
Sam, Son of Adam. Chronicles of Narnia crossover. O.o I felt so dirty. But it turned out strangely beautiful.

Most disappointing story:
I’d say Memory’s Betrayal, but only because I just can’t seem to finish it. My Qui and Obi muse has gone away. ::is sad::

Hardest story to write:
Cold and Lonely Watch. John Winchester is freaking scary to write. ::shivers:: It took me a long time to work up the gumption. But once I got a grasp on my characterization it seemed to flow okay.

Easiest story to write:
Painted Dreams of Red and Yellow. That story just FLEW out of me.

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most:
Looks like bad memories and the process of getting over them, or failing to do so. Even my one Star Wars fic was about Obi-Wan’s memories. This is not so surprising, since it is sort of a theme of my life, and they say to write what you know. I just…I really like PTSD, okay? The other theme, of course, would be familial relationships, both those you are born into and those you make (Qui and Obi, the SG-1 team, Jack and Dean, John and Dean, Sam and Dean, SamnDean and mini!Cas), but this is also not a new thing for me. Paradigmic story? Gotta go with Entertaining Angels again. Poor little Castiel got to join in on the PTSD action, too.
