maychorian: (not a good day)

My work laptop, on which I had many, many projects, went and asploded. For several weeks now I've been bringing it home in the evenings and using it instead of my home computer, beause, until very recently, it was better and faster. (And I also I would write bits of stuff on that computer and be too lazy to transfer.) Like, last night? I finished "Kings for a Little Time" around eight-thirty, and then spent the next THREE FREAKING HOURS trying to post it. Firefox wouldn't load, or would like it was loading but then wouldn't, and when I opened finder to get a different browser and it would just load and load and load nothing came up and it was so horribly annoying. So finally I emailed it to myself and used this laptop, my home one, to post stuff.

And then this morning when I tried to start the work one, it just spun and spun and spun. For an hour. And then I gave it to our tech person at work, and half an hour later she comes and tells me that my hard drive is toast.

::cries::

Parts of the next chapter of "Familiar Strangers"--gone. My original project for my RL writing buddies--gone. SIX FREAKING DAYS of iTunes music--gone. And a lot of that stuff was downloaded (yes, legally!) so I don't have physical copies. Dagnabbit, it took me years to build that collection, and I really really liked it. It's enough to make an honest girl turn to piracy. All of my playlists and ratings and and special little things I had built up. :( All of my bookmarks and extensions in Firefox. :( And yes, a teeny bit of work stuff, too. :(

::cries some more::

So yeah, I took a lunch break, which I don't usually do, and came home to my apartment to whine on LJ, because that's what you do when you have an awful, awful day, right?

But this computer! Argh. Sticky keys. Slow load times. STICKY KEYS. The poor thing is eight years old. I keep running spyware scans and still, things feel slow as molasses in winter.

::cries even more::

A lot of word docs for fanfictions were one that computer, but they're posted so I can recover them. Still, all the formatting will be gone, and I'll have to reorganize everything. GIANT PAIN IN TUCKUS! ::kicks at nothing::

Most of all, though, I miss my big library of Celtic music. ::cries in Gaelic:: No more Star of the County Down, no more Whisky in the Jar, no more Raggle Taggle Gypsy-o. No more fantastic album of celtic-kinda-folk-music made by a Renaissance Fair duo that was all a huge tribute to Firefly, including a fantastic song called Leaf on the Wind. No more Ceann with their songs about green beer and blaming the viking. No more Merry Wives of Windsor with their awesome bawdy songs from a female's perspective. ::cries with a heaving bosom straining against a too small shirt::

AND I HAD EVERY SINGLE SONG FIVE IRON FRENZY EVER WROTE.

Fistful of sand! It was all a fistful of sand and it trickled through my fingers! ::cries along with a wailing brass section::

And now I have to go back to work. :(
