Welcome back, LJ!
LOLFOREVER oh Cas. You need a better cell phone. Or Dean needs to get you a fraudulent credit card so you can add more minutes to your pre-paid POS flip thing. And possibly teach you to use an ATM, because that would be adorable. It would lead to phone conversations like this:
"IT WON'T GIVE ME BACK THE CARD! WHAT IS WROOOONG WITH THIS DEVIL MACHINE?"
"You have to hit the 'no further transactions' button, Cas! Then the card will come back out of the slot!"
"I DID THAT I FOLLOWED YOUR INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER AND IT'S NOT WORKING. TECHNOLOGY HATES ME. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE I BREAK GLASS WITH MY VOICE."
"Calm down, man! You're starting to hyperventilate. I'll talk you through it."
"OH NO NOW THE THING IS BEEPING AT ME IT WON'T SHUT UP WHAT DO I DO OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD."
"Hibba...whuzzuh... Just zap me over there, dude, I'll take care of it."
And really, Dean would be glad to do it, because he'd just be happy that Castiel hasn't changed a bit. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Maybe I'm weird, but I laughed my head off like a billion times at this episode. Since when did the Apocalypse get CUTE? O.O Since it started involving long-suffering!Chuck and hippy!Castiel and still-a-horndog!Dean, or was I just in a really, really strange mood? For real, I started trying to stifle myself because my little sisters were in bed.
Oh Lordy, Lordy, Chuck and his never-ending quest for simple creature comforts. ♥ ♥ ♥ He's such a self-absorbed little weirdo most of the time, but I can't help loving him, with those googly eyes and his little face. He's totally right about the toilet paper=gold thing, though. I'm surprised they weren't using rolls of Charmin as currency. (Maybe they were in the background. I bet hardened!future!Dean totally sent his soldiers on missions in search of TP.)
Risa! ♥ ♥ ♥ She was awesome. (Did I get that name right? Sometimes I couldn't hear the dialog over the sound of my laughter.)
I bet Misha had an utter blast shooting this ep, as well as the last one. I sincerely hope that there will be outtakes. I found it kinda hard to buy future!Cas, though. I dunno. Like I said, weird mood. Maybe that's why it felt like my only proper response was laughter. Though his utter cynicism was kinda heart-breaking. An angel in despair, Castiel without his faith and hope--when the shiniest, most-innocent-seeming character in the show is that lost, you get a pretty good idea of just how far down the crapper the world has been flushed. He's like a canary in a mine, that way. (On a shallow note, he was totally guh with the facial hair. I dig.)
On the other hand, could totally see Dean going that way if things got bad enough. :( He's right. He needs Sam to keep him human. Not even Castiel could do that.
Lucifer!Sam was...weird. That scene really set my teeth on edge. There was something about the whole thing that just...ugh, it grated against me. It looked like Sam, but it wasn't Sam, and that's so bad I don't even have words for it. Much love for the cinematography and the colors, though, the white suit, the red roses. For the whole ep, really--it had a very sharp, intense feeling to it, as if everything was overly harsh and bright, pushing at the eyes with its wrongness and too-much-ness.
Total, total love for that opening sequence with Dean running from thezombies infected-with-the-rage-virus Croats. Mucho resonance with awesome things, like 28 Days Later and Left for Dead, which is a great zombie game and I totally recommend it. I SUCK at video games and I still enjoy that one when I play with friends on our game-filled Thursday nights (just happened to be taking this week off, otherwise I'd be watching the ep and posting about it tomorrow.). Very spooky, scary scene, awesome. And the oh-so-ironic music! I LOVED THE MUSIC.
I LOVE HOW THEY ARE USING MUSIC THIS SEASON. Each choice is so intentional, so careful, not just background, setting the mood, but highlighting what's going in the scene, changing it, pointing things out you might not notice otherwise. Plus it's really cool.
Zachariah seems more serious now, less "let's have fun messing with humans" and more "oh shit this could seriously go pear-shaped if Dean Winchester doesn't see reason and give us what we want." Ha ha, oh Zach, you seriously underestimated this man. Not at all what you expected, is he?
It did occur to me, more than once over the course of the episode, that it all might have been a mind game, a universe conjured by Zachariah solely in Dean's head. So I was really glad Dean brought up that possibility. It still seems a little TOO perfect, though, future!Dean literally begging present!Dean to give in. That was wrenching to watch. Dean doesn't beg. Except, it seems, for when he does. And at the end of the episode I honestly had a moment of doubt, wondering if Dean was going to say yes, hoping he wouldn't, but fearing that he would. Close one.
I feel cheated that we didn't get a hug at the brother reunion, though. ::sigh:: Or even when Dean saw present!Castiel again. He totally looked like he wanted to, though, both times. ("Don't ever change." LOL, aw, poor Dean. ::pets him::)
Hey, did Castiel zap Dean out of there from a distance, without popping over to the motel himself? That would be cool. Also, I really, really want more CasnDean phone conversations. ::makes grabby hands at show and fandom:: You KNOW there have been more, and they have been just as lulzy and adorable as this one. And so they will continue to be.
Also, can Sam get in on that? I want Sam and Castiel interaction. It's been four episodes and we haven't had any and it's time. Dean doesn't get to hog the baby!angel all to himself, does he? Sam and Castiel should totally have geeky cell phone conversations about awesome stuff they find in old books and dusty archives while Dean is in the background, rolling his eyes and cleaning his guns with maximum hottness (and his sleeves rolled up, because I like it when that happens).
Okay, I need to stop being silly and go to sleep. Already spent forty minutes writing this incredibly hare-brained and useless reaction post--probably time to quit.
