I think this is really cool.

After I saw this, I tried tickling some of my mice, but they didn't respond quite in the same way. That's okay, though. For one thing, mice are teeny, and it's really hard to tickle something that's only as long as your finger. I ended up just rubbing very quickly. For another thing, mice and rats are different, though equally cool. My mice did enjoy the attention, and some of them would wiggle around so I could rub different parts of them. And Astara, the one who is nearly always making a snuffling noise, snuffled really, really quickly. It sounded kind of like a purr.

Some of my mice are like tiny dogs, always hungry for attention. When they see me coming they'll run around in circles, looking at me and waiting for me to reach in. When I do, they jump on my hand immediately, and either stay there or run up to my shoulder to snuggle against my neck. Of course, other mice are much more shy. They really do have individual personalities.

I know that a lot of people are grossed out by mice and rats, and I understand how nature works and that predator animals need prey, so I'm not one of those bleeding-hearts who gets upset that snakes have to eat mice. (Predator animals are awesome, too. I mean, cats! So awesome.) But all of God's creatures are special, right? All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all. There's nothing wrong with loving the teeny ones.

And I do.
