maychorian: (Dean crusader)

Oh, Dean. I knew those old guys were playing you. You walked right into that, didn't you? :D His widdle face! Dean has the best expressions.

So, Sam and Dean meet yet another "family" and see parallels with their own situation. I mentioned last week that I like this--I like it when the Winchester family helps other families. It's in keeping with the dynamics of the show, and it's far more interesting than any of Show's attempts at a love interest for the boys. Much better than Babe of the Week is Family of the Week.

On the whole I liked the episode, though I wouldn't say it's in my favorites. Just kind of a serviceable, solid episode. I don't really have a lot to say about it, didn't really see any new character insights or anything. The plot was okay, but nothing that I feel the need to analyze. I don't even have a list of things I loved, like I usually do. For some reason I just didn't see much. It was like Sam and Dean were just moving from point A to point B. All the subtle, interesting moments were reserved for Jay, Charlie and Vernon. Who were neat guys, and I liked their development, but I don't love them. An awful lot of very good, subtle acting in this ep, though.

Dean and Sam kept splitting up, which made for less squeeful interaction. And then the episode ended with Sam leaving, again, so maybe it was preparing us. Poor, poor Dean. Sammy never does what he says anymore.

On the other hand, I'm glad to get back to the Seals storyline, and I'm glad to see more about Sam's powers. And at least there wasn't another Impala confession.

As for Sam's reasoning for this, I'm sure it's flawed. But I'm also sure that his intentions are pure, and he's only thinking about protecting Dean and stopping the Apocalypse. Once again, Sam sees a flaw in the world and chooses not to accept it, but to try to mold the situation to his liking. This has always been his way. And so, if he can, he will try to end the demon war.

I'm sure if he could he would get rid of all monsters everywhere, so that he and Dean can retire, find a different life. So his brother can rest. I'm absolutely certain that Dean is highest in Sam's thoughts right now. Dean has always been very accepting of death, and Sam never has. It doesn't even scare Dean. He just wants to do the best he can with the life he has, save people, hunt things, go down swinging. As always, Sam wants more, for himself and for Dean.

If this show ends with Sam and Dean fighting and/or killing each other, I will be so upset. I think that Sam is trying to prevent that, but perhaps not in the best way.
