This post is what is typically called "squee" in fandom. For instance, "Squee! I saw part of Han Solo's chest!" or "Squee! Daniel Jackson has melty ice cream on his chin!" or "Squee! Obi-Wan smiled!" quickly followed by me turning into a puddle of adolescent mush. Even though I'm twenty-four. You know, stuff like that.

So anyway. Squee! I love Robin!

Specifically, I love the third Robin, Tim Drake. I also like Dick Grayson, of course--who doesn't? But there's something about Tim Drake's character that I really, really love.

He is why I got all the Batman graphic novels I could find from the library and read them when I was a teenager. For months, I'd go on the online catalog every now and then and type "batman," just in case there was a new one. I devoured years and years and years of comic mythology, all for the sake of Robin III. I suffered through the whole Jason Todd fiasco just so I could understand what came before. I read tons of stuff with just Batman, no hint of Robin, because hey, Batman is affiliated with Robin. (Yes, in my mind, that's the way it works, not the other way 'round.) Oh, I love him.

In college I lost track of his continuing story, though, since I got all uptight about that silly thing called "grades." And then, as I may have mentioned, I got into fanfiction again after ignoring it for years. And Obi-Wan occupied all of my attention. Then it was Stargate and Daniel Jackson.

But Stardust came out in the theaters recently, and that gave me the urge to re-read all my Neil Gaiman stuff. So I did, and then I went to the library to check out the Sandman graphic novels. And I noticed Robin again.

Robin! Oh, how I love him.

Let me count the ways! Shall I compare him to a summer's day? His costume is like a red, red rose.

And oh, poor, poor Tim Drake. He's been through some nasty stuff since the last time I picked up a graphic novel. Good grief! Was it really necessary to kill his dad, too? I ask you! It's like being an orphan is a prerequisite for joining the Batman club.

But you know, I kind of love it. Because I'm all about teh angst.

So anyway, now I am again searching the library catalog and getting all the graphic novels I can. I'm reading Teen Titans, because Robin is in it, and I also want to watch the cartoon. I'm reading Batman, because Robin is in it, and I also rather like the grumpy old Dark Knight. And I'm reading Nightwing, because Robin is in it, and also because Dick Grayson is awesome. And I'm reading Robin, because--you guessed it--Robin is in it.

Squee! Squee! And triple squee!

Okay, 'm done now. Back to your regularly scheduled slightly-less-disturbing geekiness.
