Big Bang Theory Season 4
Oct. 5th, 2011 10:01 amI caught up with Big Bang Theory last night, and enjoyed it to a surprising degree. The last run of five or six episodes in the season really hung together very well. The show felt like it had heart, a little bit, though it's still massively condescending in some ways. I love, love, love that there are geeky girls on my screen now, two of them, and Penny now hangs out with geek girls as well as geek guys. It just opens up the possibilities of the show to an amazing extent. And the show finally passes the Bechdel test, not every episode but often. I really enjoy Amy and Bernadette and the development Amy has gotten even in one season. She feels relatable even to my non-academic, non-neurobiological self, and that's awesome. The show also finally acknowledges in text just how assy its male characters are, so that's good. And it's still a fairly stupid sitcom with stupid situations and stupid jokes. But I have some affection for it, even so.
Anyway. It's not as good as Community, so if you can only watch one Thursday night comedy show, watch that one. But it's worth a look. It makes me laugh regularly, and that's important.
