Maychorian's Fantabulous Sandwich Spread
Mar. 27th, 2009 01:16 pmIn order to distract from the inevitable wank caused by the new episode (haven't watched yet, will soon), I thought it would be fun to share with you all my recipe for fantastic mustard-mayo-onion-poppy seed sandwich spread. It's a bit of my own creation and I LOVE it. It makes grilled cheese sandwiches DELICIOUS. It was also makes every other deli-type sandwich delicious. (Yes, this is the grilled cheese that I wanted to feed to Cas while I was watching 4.15.) When I lived by myself I would make it in small batches, but now that I'm at home I've gotten my whole family hooked on it, too, and I've had to up the ante.
It's easy. Just follow the very simple proportions:
2 parts mayonnaise
2 parts mustard
1 part onion powder
1 part poppy seeds
Stir until thoroughly mixed. Spread thinly on one slice of bread--add cheese and/or meat and another slice of bread and grill until hot. I like it with deli ham and sharp cheddar, pressed in a sandwich maker for three minutes, but just about anything will work. Also pretty good cold, but I do love my melty cheese. ::glazes over and starts to drool:: Mmmmmmm. Cheeeeeeeese.
::shakes head to clear cobwebs out:: So, right, when it was just me, for instance, I would use a tablespoon as the "part" in question, so the recipe was two tbsp mustard, two tbsp mayo, one tbsp onion powder, and one tbsp poppy seeds. Now it's more, like, a fourth cup. My family loves their sandwiches.
Mmm, I love spices. I wrote a blog entry about it on my xanga two years ago that still makes me smile.

Yeah. I have a whole box now just of spices, sitting on a shelf in my parents' basement. ::le sigh:: And yes, I have yet to try a single recipe that calls for sage.
