Life and Stuff
So a couple of weeks ago my new netbook got stepped on and the LCD screen was cracked. Of course my immediate thought was "Oh no! How am I going to finish Big Bang?" The screen had two massive black spots on it, mainly on the right side, and a spiderweb of cracks spreading across the rest of the screen.
This is not a cheap thing to fix. Cheapest would be sending it back to the manufacturer, which is going to be at least 120 for the part and 45 for labor, possibly more if it takes more than an hour. And I'm sure that doesn't include shipping. I got a number and everything so I could send it in, but held off, hoping I could get a backup computer before I lost my connection to the world wide web, which is basically my life right now. I thought maybe I could get my old laptop working again--it quit working soon after I bought this one, which seemed serendipitous at the time.
But well, old laptop appears to have given up the ghost. And the cracks on the netbook keep getting worse and bigger. I managed to finish big bang by always shortening the browser window with my google doc to half of the screen, or sometimes hooking the netbook up to an old CRT monitor we had around the house. But yeah, headaches and backaches from working at unusual angles and unusual sizes, and I had to do a lot of scrolling back and forth a lot of the time, and it just made the stress of trying to finish that much worse. This may have contributed to my epic nap on Sunday.
Now the black spots are on the left side as well, with random streaks in between, so yeah. I think this screen is dead. But the whole thing only cost 350 altogether when I bought it a couple months ago, and I don't know if it's worth it to spend the possibly 200 to fix it, or if I should just save up and buy a new one. The old netbook can still be hooked up to a monitor and USB keyboard and mouse to serve as a mighty fine computer, but what I really need is something portable for carting around Fort Wayne in my now-nomadic existence.
So for now, yeah, my internet usage is a bit hampered, and kind of hurts my head. I'm using a library computer right now, which is nice and all, but there are time limits and I miss all my tabs. :(
Oh well. That's life. This post is just to let you know, then, that I might be a bit more scarce around these parts until I get this figured out, but that doesn't mean I don't love you. ♥
