Just wrote the end of Book 4, basically the end of the entire Coming Down on a Sunny Day story, though there's still an epilogue to go.

Gah, I am so damn proud of this story.

I don't care if almost no one is reading it. I needed to write it.

I'm basically high on writing now.

And I have to go to bed.

IT'S SO AWESOME YOU GUYS. CASTIEL IS SO AWESOME, AND SO ARE JIMMY AND DEAN AND SAM AND JOHN. THEY ARE THE AWESOMEST.

Right. Gotta go to bed.
maychorian: (last angel standing)
I got laid off today and I have a sad. I completely forgot that I said I would post new Coming Down every Friday, and I haven't worked on it. So...tomorrow. Sorry for the broken promise after only one week.

Coming Down on a Sunny Day: Book 3 is at 23k+ words. I think it's almost done. I have ideas for interludes to go between books 2 and 3 and 3 and 4. I have a vague plan for book 4.

Everything is going swimmingly.
maychorian: (stories with SamnDean)
Ahahahaha, [livejournal.com profile] crack_impala recced Clarity and people are reading it. That's the second story I wrote in this fandom, ffs, so long ago, geez. I am cracking myself up with my author's note on that dinosaur:

And this fandom continues to seduce me into doing things I thought I wouldn't do. I used to think, "Oh, I'll watch the show, but I won't write fic." And then I got ideas and I thought, "I'll write fic, but they'll be short. About Dean." And then I wrote a short fic that was all about Sam. And then I thought, "Well, I've never made a vid, anyway." And then I made "I Have Lost My Fangs." And then I thought, "Oh, people write them as kids, that's cute, but I won't write it." And then I wrote this.

WHAT HAVE I BECOME.

So I've written three fics over 20k in this fandom, four if you count the Rain Falling Down 'verse as one story. Five if you count The Mouths of Children, my stupid WIP. AND THEY ARE ALL KID!FIC IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Okay, there was that SG-1 crossover way at the beginning that was 25k and not a kidfic. Still. If I don't have a reputation for loving Weechesters and kid!fic by now, I really, really should.

Oh, fandom. What you do to me.

So, hrm. Have not posted in awhile.

I have a job right now. It's likely not permanent, but it's something. My dad works in the office of a family-owned furniture factory in the next town over. Summer is their busy season, since they make a lot of furniture for colleges and such, and they just switched over to a new database, so Dad asked me to come help them do data entry to get it set up. I thought it would be a one-time thing, just setting up the database, but then it turned into on-going. I'm a quick typist and I have a nimble brain and am analytical, like my dad, so I'm very suited for this sort of work. It's more than part-time though not quite full-time, giving me some flexibility, and Dad thinks there will be work for me for at least eight weeks. The pay is good, as good as I've ever had.

I hate it, of course. I want to work with people, preferably children, possibly in an educational setting, and this is about as far as you can get from that. For a while I was getting terrible, ice-pick-in-brain headaches every day, though that probably was a combination of tiny laptop screen, glare, and my horrible, horrible, keratoconus-riddled eyes. Now, with a new monitor (and going into the control panel and making everything ENORMOUS), maybe that will be taken care of.

And, you know, it's a job. I feel better about myself, having something to do, feeling like I'm making a valuable contribution somewhere. Even if it's just helping a furniture factory run smoothly. When I get out of there, my steps lighten and so does my heart. I do a lot more with the rest of my day, compared to when I was unemployed. I go for walks, play with my sibs, go to movies, bake muffins...whereas before I mostly just fiddled around on the internet all day without any purpose. Now my time is more valuable to me, so I take better care of it.

Someone seriously needs to kick me in the pants and make me write more, though. I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen AND [livejournal.com profile] castielfest AND [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang, and I am determined to make all of those happen. I still have a few small scenes to write for Big Bang, though I'm happy with how the polishing is going. Got a partial rough draft from my artist and it's looking fantastic, so that's good. But I want--I need--to write more. I haven't been reading very much lately, either, though I've been doing better about updating [livejournal.com profile] spngenlove.

So anyway. That's my life lately.

Oh, and I saw both How to Train Your Dragon and Prince of Persia within the last few days. The former is about a hundred times better than the latter, though I DID enjoy the latter, don't get me wrong. Jake Gyllenhaal is very, very cute and I enjoyed watching him flying acrobatically across the screen. It was pretty tired and predictable, though. But the dragon movie was amazing. It's one I'll be happy to watch again and again, while once was enough with Prince of Persia.

It's the last weekend to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] castielfest!

You know you want to!

Oh, crap. There's like twelve hours left to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen. Wow. A lot of things have been slipping by me lately.

I also kind of want to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] castielfest and maybe even [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang (writing gen friendship, of course). Is this a bad idea?
maychorian: (sam dean on phone)
So, I finally finished my big damn tornado fic...

I'm talking, of course, about The Sky Like a Bruise, finally posted after midnight last night. This story has taken me almost a year to write, which is ridiculous. But it's done now and I'm proud of it. So here's some DVD commentary, I guess.

blathering about writing process and Midwest tornado panic, spoilers for the story )

There is a rec meme going on at [livejournal.com profile] spn_foxhole.

GO FORTH AND REC. Unfortunately I have already read three-quarters of the fics recced there and am now going through the rest. I'M GOING TO RUN OUT SOON AND IT MAKES ME SAD.

Still trying come up with anything to rec, myself.
maychorian: (Save Our Sammy)
I watched the Marble Hornets YouTube series last night after midnight, which was somewhat unwise of me. CREEEEEPEEEEE. ([livejournal.com profile] bellatemple and I had an epic flailfest over at her LJ. It was fun.) And now, appropriately, there is this!

A gen-oriented, horror-themed Comment Meme
[Click on the image to go to the meme.]

I picked an SPN banner, but it's multi-fandom and gen-oriented (meaning pairings are allowed, but should not be the focus of the fic or art or vid), so that's all to the awesome.

Go play!

Then, after you've gotten yourself thoroughly freaked out, head over to the new Sam-hurt community, [livejournal.com profile] ohsam, and join in their meme!

\o/ You won't regret it!
maychorian: (when did my writing style contract the d)
I wrote a lot of fanfic this year. It kept me sane in a lot of ways. Sixty-one posts marked fanfic on this journal, and I have at least a couple of commentfics that I never reposted here, plus some collaborations from the [livejournal.com profile] spnwriterlounge Writer Olympics thing that I'm not sure how to quantify. I'm also not counting the bits of fic in my google documents that I wrote but never posted--have at least three partially finished stories in there.

STATS! )

And now the fic meme, amalgamated from several sources because I'm self-indulgent like that.

This gets long )

I'm in a very introspective and thinky mood right now, so I'll open this up for questions. If you've ever wondered something about my writing process, ask away. Or if you have questions about specific fics and 'verses, where they came from, where I think they're going, what changed along the way... Anything like that. Be prepared for a lot of vague mumbling and meandering explanations, though. I love writing and I can go on for a really, really long time if you get me started.

Like I said. Self-indulgent.

Mice win!

Awww, The Tale of Teenie Weenie Deanie won a fic award!

Photobucket

Dean totally looks big enough to be a chinchilla, but look how adorable! Awwwww. Banner links to fic, if you can't remember which one it is or you've never read it.
maychorian: (LEG GUITAR!!! (squee))
I'm feeling a crazy urge to make a 5.04 vid to "Wine Red" by The Hush Sound. It would be awesome. But this computer isn't really fast enough for vidding, and I don't have enough experience to make it into the kind of vid I would want from that mythologically spectacular combination.

Plus I can't decide between the original version or the Snakes on a Plane remix. ::sigh::

My crackfic is coming right along, though. I'm not doing NaNo, per se, but I decided to just try to write a little every single day. So far I've been doing about 500 words a day, which isn't bad at all, as far as consistency goes. Then when that's done I have the next chapter of Rain in the works, and also of Mouths, and also that Sweet Charity fic that was due almost half a year ago (O.O), and also more snapshots.

Sheesh. And I haven't even signed up for any ficathons lately. The challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] sickdean is definitely calling my name, though. I had a peek through the prompts, and they're amazing. So many that I would love to do. Must resist must resist must resist!
maychorian: (Wee Sam)
Hahaha, okay, so now I know which way the wind is blowing. I feel like I write some form of Weechesters all the time, but apparently you guys are okay with that.

Halfway through writing it, though you guys won't see it for a few days. The competition starts Sunday, though, so maybe I'll be first. Depends on what my team wants.

Second idea will definitely have its moment in the sun, as well.

Bah

I need to write a ficlet for the [livejournal.com profile] spnwriterlounge Writer Olympics. I have two ideas.

maychorian: (when did my writing style contract the d)
I mentioned awhile ago that I was thinking of a taking a table from [livejournal.com profile] spn_30snapshots for Rain Falling Down. Well, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it, but I just CAN'T DECIDE whether to go with the Elemental or the Paranormal State table. You can look at them here.

So help me out? Mah brane, she is teh frozen.

[Poll #1458071]

In relatively good news, I may very well have a short for you either today or tomorrow. ♥

Art!

::flails:: Guys, guys! I have been given some awesome art that I must share with you right away.

First, [livejournal.com profile] davincis_girl made this wonderful cover for Five Things Most Kids Do That Sam and Dean Never Did, which is the longest fic title I've written to date. :) She made this awhile ago but somehow it slipped my mind. No idea how, because it's beautiful.

click for art )

But then! [livejournal.com profile] oatmeal_queen, who draws some of my favorite art in this fandom, gave me SEVEN doodles for Rain Falling Down. SEVEN. In, like, two days. I dunno how I get so lucky, you guys. People keep giving me awesome stuff. She says she's going to color the last three, too, but I'm too impatient. MUST SHARE NOW.

slightly spoilery for story, but not a big deal )

I didn't want to leave without making sure you guys saw these.

Hi! Long time no post, eh? It was mostly because of the lack of computer, but also when I was on the internet, at the library or begging time from my parents, I put most of my effort into [livejournal.com profile] spngenlove. Oh, and also writing that AU thing. Writing in notebooks is so frustrating. It's much slower than typing, and I'm always three or four sentences ahead of myself, trying to catch up. Missing words GALORE. But hopefully this dark, dark period is behind me now, because my new power supply came in the mail this morning!

Good timing, since I'll be gone next week. Monday through Friday I'll be on vacation with my family, down in the southern part of the state. I have no idea if I'll be able to hook up to wireless down there, and if I do it'll probably be for brief periods only. So probably no blogging then, either. But I intend to keep writing. I hope to come back with several projects done for immediate posting. ::crosses fingers::

In the meantime, I've been twittering more lately, because it's faster than writing a blog post. I sometimes post interesting sentences from whatever writing thing I'm working on with the tag #ptiw (proof that I'm writing). Here I am. I'm maychorian over there, too.

Also, in case NO ONE else has informed you, [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen has started to posting. \o/ I'm way excited to see what prompt my gifter decided to use, and also nervous about how my recipient will receive what I made. And hey, if you can guess which one is mine, maybe I'll write you a ficlet! That would be fun, right?

Well, time to go back to coding recs. There were a ton of them this week.

w00tsauce!

Summergen is finished and sent! \o/ Next on my to-do list:

1. Sweet Charity
2. Part 13 of Mouths
3. Next part of Rain Falling Down 'Verse

Or, well, maybe whatever my muse insists on. Because, yeah, I'm already working on number 3 in a notebook. (On PAPER. With a PEN. There aren't even any BUTTONS. It's so WEIRD.) Apparently I really like wee!Jimmy and Bobby bonding. It's kind of an escape from all the crap my life is doing to me right now.

But there was also something I found really hilarious. I've had this notebook for a long time, and it has notes from many, many projects, snippets of prose, a lot of D&D stuff for Wrath & Gunfire and random campaigns. There are even a couple of sections from The Lights of Home in there, written before I got my netbook and became more internetly mobile, and it was interesting to look over them again. But I also found notes for Part 9 of The Mouths of Children, mainly plot ideas that I decided not to go with, though I still think that "Ice cream saves the day??" might have merit.

But at the bottom of the page was this:

"Should probably go ahead and end this now. Two more chapters?"

Oh, me from a few months ago. You're so naive and sweet. And so, so stupid. ::pats past-self on the head::
maychorian: (xkcd love)
Okay, you guys, I said I wouldn't start it now but I lied. Gen needs love IMMEDIATELY.
